In the fight against organized crime, a large-scale Europe-wide operation is underway on Wednesday, in which numerous forces from North Rhine-Westphalia are also involved.

As reported by the State Criminal Police Office (LKA) early in the morning, around 500 emergency services – including the operational group, the special task force and service dog handlers – are searching a total of 51 houses, apartments, offices and shops in NRW. The officials are executing 15 arrest warrants that were obtained in advance.

Major raid in NRW: It’s about money laundering, gang fraud and drug smuggling

According to the LKA, the background is “a procedure related to Italian organized crime, which is directed against those responsible and members of the ‘Ndrangheta” association. The accused are accused, among other things, of money laundering, gang tax evasion, commercial gang fraud and drug smuggling.

The procedure is conducted by a joint investigation team involving Europol and Eurojust. Missions are also running in Bavaria, Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland. In addition, the security authorities from Belgium, France, Italy, Portugal and Spain are on duty. (red)
