FLORIDA.- The migratory flow of Cuban citizens towards the United States border during the month of April reached the figure of almost 18 thousand individuals, according to data provided by the Customs and Border Protection (CBP).
This number represents a significant decrease compared to previous months of fiscal year 2024, where the arrival of a total of 144,378 Cubans has been recorded. In April, according to a review Martí NewsCBP reported 128,900 encounters on the southwest border, marking a decrease of 6% compared to March 2024 and 30% compared to April 2023.
The acting commissioner of the CBP, Troy Miller, highlighted that this decrease is attributed to greater surveillance on the southwest border, which has contributed to reversing previous trends of increases in migratory encounters. Likewise, he stressed the importance of closely monitoring migration patterns, which are constantly changing.
During the month of April, US authorities allowed the entry of 41,400 people through border crossings with Mexico using the CBP One online appointment system, raising the total number of entries to more than 591,000 since the implementation of this system in January 2023. In addition, nearly 91,000 Cubans have benefited from humanitarian parole.
