Eva Kaili remains under house arrest on charges of corruption. But the socialist wants to return to the European Parliament as soon as possible. According to her lawyers, Kaili wants to prove her innocence.
As soon as her house arrest is lifted, she wants to return to the meetings as a normal member of parliament. But several parliamentarians are opposed to it. The Vice-President of the European Parliament, SPD politician Katarina Barley, says: “Kaili’s attempt to present herself as a victim is inappropriate. Instead, she should consider how to limit the damage done.”

From a legal point of view, Kaili could return to parliamentary sessions once her house arrest is lifted. This was confirmed by a spokesman for the European Parliament „Bild“.
In addition, Kaili receives full salary despite being under house arrest. The Greek receives 9808.67 euros before deducting taxes.
