The Government has made the “Salvadoreño Seguro” program available to the diaspora through which it allows contributions and registration of family members living in El Salvador to receive care at the Salvadoran Social Security Institute (ISSS).
Salvadorans abroad can benefit their wife and children under 18 years of age, as part of the innovation of Social Security and the priority that the Government has given to the issue of health.
“There is a program called ‘Salvadoreño Seguro’, which is already active and can be used. This program allows anyone from the diaspora to contribute and register their family, whether it is their children under 18 years of age and their wife here. in El Salvador”, stated the director of the ISSS, Mónica Ayala Guerrero.
The program resolves the fact that a person emigrated to another country and their family remained in El Salvador without medical protection, a situation that forced Social Security to seek an alternative.
Those interested in insuring their family can start the process from anywhere in the world through the ISSS online portal and select the Salvadoran insurance program, register as a holder and their beneficiaries.
Safe Salvadoran works through the “Doctor ISSS online” program that emerged in May 2020 as an alternative enabled during the COVID-19 pandemic, but given its effectiveness it has been reinforced.
The service is available 24/7 for Salvadorans abroad and their beneficiaries in the country, although they can go in person to the nearest medical unit.
The director of the ISSS affirmed that they are working in an agreement with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to find the strategy that allows the sending of prescribed medicines to a patient in an online consultation.
In the country, the home medication dispatch service already works and with which the ISSS sends the medicines to the door of the patient’s house. Social Security has provided more than 173,000 consultations with the Doctor ISSS online program.
