C-Lab Startups Earn Record-Breaking 29 Wins at CES 2023 Innovation Awards

Samsung has successfully supported more than 500 startups and projects over the past five years

Samsung Electronics today announced that it will showcase innovative new projects developed under its C-Lab program1 at CES 2023. To the public, Samsung will unveil four exciting projects from C-Lab Inside, its in-house venture capital program, and eight startups backed by C-Lab Outside, the company’s startup acceleration program. Visitors can take a look at innovative projects at Eureka Park in Las Vegas, USA, the main exhibition space for many startups around the world, from January 5 to 8. Samsung expects C-Lab startups to engage in the global market of their projects through CES, strengthen their commercial feasibility and have meetings with potential investors.

C-Lab Inside: Samsung Employees’ Metaverse and Lifestyle Projects Featured

Since 2016, Samsung has exhibited its C-Lab Inside projects at CES, and the upcoming projects for 2023 have been highly rated in terms of innovation, marketability, and completeness among those currently promoted internally. And they are:

  • Meta-Runninga metaverse platform to learn proper running form
  • Porkamixa metaverse platform that offers an interactive concert experience
  • Suma new meditation experience with real-time feedback
  • Falettea 3D digital transformation for home textile products

C-Lab Outside: Startups Showcasing Robots, AI, and More to Get CES Spotlight

Created in October 2018, C-Lab Outside is a startup acceleration program launched to boost the startup ecosystem in Korea. Startups enrolled in the C-Lab Outside program benefit from office workspaces, expert mentorship by Samsung employees, and digital and financial marketing advice. Additional support includes potential partnerships with Samsung Electronics and opportunities to attend influential IT shows such as CES and KES (Korea Electronics Show).

For a year, Samsung, Daegu Center and Gyeong-buk Center for Creative Economy & Innovation, which are part of C-Lab Outside, have been incubating these startups to develop their technology and be ready to meet the world at CES 2023 The eight startups chosen are:

  • NdotLighta web-based 3D design solution
  • NEUBILITYan urban delivery service using autonomous robots
  • 40AFa digital mental health care application service, from examination to treatment,
  • CELLICOa micro-bionic eye for patients with retinal disease
  • plastic, a browser-based AI motion capture and animation editing tool
  • Wrn Technologies, writing training services and creating content using generative AI
  • Catius, a multi-turn conversational AI companion for kids
  • Erangtek, an IoT micro repeater for individuals to improve call quality

C-Lab Startups Earn Record 29 CES 2023 Innovation Awards Wins

In November 2022, the Consumer Technology Association (CTA) announced the winners of the CES 2023 Innovation Awards in 28 product categories, including Best of Innovation. C-Lab startup projects received two Best of Innovation Awards and 27 were named Innovation Awards Honorees. As a result, C-Lab won 22 innovation awards in 2022 and another seven in 2023 for their outstanding technologies.

“It’s a great pleasure to see that C-Lab startups have proven their technological prowess on the world stage, as evidenced by the most innovation awards ever presented at CES,” said Hark Kyu Park. , president and chief financial officer of Samsung Electronics. “We hope that C-Lab startups can more actively target the global market and show the excellence of Korean startups.”

Notably, Dot Inc., which develops devices and software for the visually impaired, was named the CES 2022 Top Innovation Award winner in the Accessibility category and also named two CES Innovation Award winners. Verses, which developed the Meta Music System for streaming, was named the winner of the CES 2023 Best of Innovation Award in the Streaming category.

Seven of the eight startups to exhibit on the C-Lab stand – NEUBILITY, 40FY, NdotLight, CELLICO, Plask, Catius, Wrtn Technologies – won Innovation Awards.

Additionally, seven spin-off startups from C-Lab Inside and 11 former startups from C-Lab Outside won two Best of Innovation Awards and 20 Innovation Awards.

Samsung hit its five-year goal of nurturing 500 startups and projects

In 2018, Samsung Electronics announced that it would accelerate 300 Korean startups through C-Lab Outside and 200 projects through C-Lab Inside over a five-year period. The company has nurtured a total of 506 startups and projects (304 from C-Lab Outside and 202 from C-Lab Inside) so far.

Samsung recently established C-Lab Family, a unique professional network through which alumni startups can continue to cooperate with Samsung even after graduating from C-Lab Outside or parting ways with C-Lab. He also established the C-Lab Scaling Committee and plans to gradually expand partnerships and investments for the C-Lab family in the future.

1 Since December 2012, Samsung C-Lab Inside has been established to encourage Samsung employees to discover new ideas and foster a culture of creativity. The proven ones will either be transferred to an internal Samsung division or become spin-off projects that the company supports.
