Some countries and associations of states, such as the United States and the European Union, have introduced a trade embargo against Russia because of the war in Ukraine. To implement the regulations, Intel has blocked Russian IP addresses from accessing its services. Since February 25, 2022, users in Russia have no longer been able to obtain new drivers from the chip manufacturer. This practice was criticized because Intel has a warranty obligation towards existing customers. A few days ago, the Russian magazine CNews was able to access Intel’s download portal without changing its IP address using a VPN connection. However, the site had to be called up via search engines such as Yandex or Google, since the US company’s main site continues to block Russian users. The manufacturer’s automatic download tool must be used to install driver updates. However, the driver and support assistant cannot be used because Russian IP addresses are excluded from registration.
