Many people consider that certain professions are reserved only for men. At the same time, many have decided to break all the codes and stereotypes of society and embark on the realization of their dreams.

This is the case of Sarah Daniel-Hamizi, of Algerian origin, who decided to be, from a young age, the first woman, in France, who paved the way for female barbers. A profession dominated by men. IN 2015, she was the only woman to exercise this profession, today she is at the head of seven hairdressing salons and represents an international reference in this field.

Who is Sarah Daniel-Hamizi, the first female barber in France?

This child from Kabylie, more precisely from Azazga in Tizi Ouzou, got the origin of this profession from his grandfather who shaved his beard in front of an old mirror, in the family garden. A ritual that little Sarah at the time found magical and fascinating. Since then, Sarah Hamizi dreamed of becoming a barber. An idea that his mother kept sweeping away, specifying that it was “a job made for men”.

Arriving in France in 1980, Sarah decided not to give up on her dream. And to prove that a woman can also exercise this profession. She then obtained her baccalaureate, her Hairdressing Cap and her professional certificate, to be able to take her first steps in this field alongside a Turkish barber, the only one who agreed to hire her in this country.

In her various statements made to the French press, Sarah Hamizi confides that the men did not want her. “We are not in a beauty salon”, often throws the customers of this salon. A blow that was very violent for the woman of Algerian origin. Despite this and thanks to her pugnacity, she manages to tame the male sex.

Today, she finds herself at the head of “the barbershop of Paris”, where her clients line up to be able to get an appointment. Sarah Daniel-Hamizi also trains several male barbers in this profession. And inspires hundreds, even thousands of women who want to do like her. Already ranked number 1 in the top 10 barbers in Paris, she is also the author of several books, including “Beards” released in 2020. She has several contributions to her credit with the most prestigious brands, including Dior and Swarovski. Sarah Hamizi also appeared on the famous Cristina Cordula’s show, notably on her show “New look for a new life”.
