During the weekend, the handball ladies compete for the cup gold. After Friday’s two semi-finals, it is clear that Dicken and HIFK will play in Saturday’s final.

Dicken and HIFK have completely dominated women’s handball and put the pinches on the last ten league golds. In the cup as well, the duo has taken home the last ten titles. HIFK won in 2013–2016 and 2018–2020, while Dicken took home the cup in 2017 and 2021–2022.

In the league, this season Grankulla IFK has sailed up as a threat. After nine rounds, both first place Dicken and second place GrIFK have 14 points, while HIFK in third place has 12 points.

After Friday night’s semi-finals in the Finnish cup, it is clear that GrIFK will not succeed in breaking the giants’ cup streak. Dicken defeated GrIFK with a clear 32–24.

The first semi-final was in practice already decided at half-time. In the last 20 minutes of the first half, 6-5 turned into 19-9 – and Dicken then had no problem turning the second half into a transport stretch.

– Congratulations to Dicken. They completely outplay us, in the first half there is only one team on the field, says GrIFK head coach Patrik Johanson on the handball association’s website.

Two players scored seven goals: Linn Wentzel in Dicken and Johanna Hilli in GrIFK.

HIFK moved early

The second semi-final between HIFK and BK-46 was also decided during the second half of the first half. When 13 minutes had been played, the game was tied at 5–5, but 17 minutes later HIFK had an 18–7 halftime lead.

HIFK eventually won 34–19.

In HIFK, Kira Härkönen and Emma von Nandelstadh scored seven goals each. There were also seven goals for Erica Gustafsson in BK-46 where the goals were distributed among a small number of players.
