The first full trailer for the new installment of the horror saga has just been unveiled. This sixth feature film promises its share of shocks.

Goodbye Woodsboro, hello Manhattan: for its sixth installment, the saga Scream leaves the small Californian town where it all began to settle in the Big Apple. And this change of scenery in no way diminishes the bloodthirsty desires of the mysterious masked killer, as evidenced by the first trailer unveiled this Thursday before a theatrical release on March 8.

We find the new generation introduced in the previous part, released last year: Jenna Ortega, star of the series-phenomenon Wednesday, Melissa Barrera, Mason Gooding and Jasmin Savoy Brown. Courteney Cox, who plays Gale Weathers since the very first installment, will also be there, as well as Hayden Panettiere, whose character Kirby Reed had however been left for dead in a previous opus…

Returns and a great absentee

After four installments directed by Wes Craven between 1996 and 2011, the duo formed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett relaunched the franchise with a fifth film last year, seven years after the death of the original filmmaker. They featured a slew of new characters grappling with the masked killer, while bringing back the star trio of the first four films: Courteney Cox, David Arquette and, of course, lead actress Neve Campbell.

But the one who lent her features to the combative Sidney Prescott will not be back for this sixth installment. She had announced it last year, pointing to a stamp that was too weak:

“I had the feeling that what was offered to me did not correspond to the added value that I brought to this franchise for 25 years”, she had notably declared to People.

“As a woman in this industry, I think it’s really important to be appreciated, and to fight for it.” Scream VI will therefore be the first part of the franchise that will not feature its historical heroine.
