Backblaze, a renowned cloud storage and data backup company, has released its 2022 annual hard drive (HDD) failure report and those of the brand Seagate They were the worst off.

The company analyzed 230,921 hard drives and found that the two models that failed the most were the 8TB HGST Ultrastar He8 and the 14TB Seagate Exos X14, which had failure rates of 5.27% and 5.70%respectively.

The report did single out the Exos 8TB, also from the California-based company, which had no failures in 2022. However, Backblaze only had 79 of these drives in use for their metrics and these drives had only been around for a few days and were They were mainly used as a backup to replace failed drives.

Backblaze shared a graph which confirms that the Seagate brand is the one with the highest percentage failure rate with 1.87% failures in the last quarter of 2022. Instead, the one that failed the least was Western Digital with 0.2%.

On the part of Toshiba, this reached a rate of 0.82 percent of failures and the fourth in contention, HGST, reached a very low 0.51%.

The most curious thing about the ranking is that users are still betting on HDDs, which is surprising because solid state drives (SSDs) have dropped in price and their capacities have increased in recent years.
