“The initial idea was to transform the original comics into something darker, more bitter. To make a pure spy series, which we had not yet done for Disney Plus. plunged back into themes that we had not approached since Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier. It’s been a long time and so it was interesting to find this tone of espionage.
Director But Selim explains that as for the Winter Soldierseries Secret Invasion was designed as a “human history above all. It’s a Nick Fury story. He’s a human. He has his own version of the superpower, but it’s not like a superhero superpower. We really tell a story with our feet on the ground, a story with heart and on a human scale, with universal reach. In addition, there is this element of political thriller in the plot, so we saw some classics like The Third Man with Orson Welles (1949) or Conversation Secrète by Coppola (1974). We were inspired by things like that, very anchored, very realistic.“
And Ali Selim to end by revealing that the series evolves thereafter: “Nick Fury becomes an American western hero, you’ll see why… As the episodes progress, Nick Fury turns into a sort of John Wayne!”
Secret Invasion will be launched on June 21, on Disney Plus.
