After several years of renovation, the reopening of the historic parliament building in Austria is imminent. The almost 140-year-old parliament building has been extensively and sustainably renovated over several years. One principle was written large: the renovation of the parliament building is no ordinary construction project, but a project of the century and an essential contribution to the sustainable consolidation of parliamentary democracy.

As part of the refurbishment, the interior design was also put out to tender. And Sedus won the contract for the seating in the National Council Hall and the Federal Council Hall. “We are incredibly proud that our products are being used in such a prestigious project,” explains Peter Sablatnig, Managing Director of Sedus Austria and CEE. “When it came to seating in such a historic building, it was immediately clear that our model had to come close to the original chair. That’s why the choice fell on ‘silent rush’, a swivel chair that combines ergonomics, style, comfort and design history to a particularly high degree . The variant for the equipment of the Austrian Parliament is a special version that is genuinely hand-made and reflects the highest quality requirements of Sedus.”

The new chairs of the Austrian Parliament are a very central part of the equipment of the National Council and the Federal Council. They are the workplace of around 244 parliamentarians and thus the linchpin of long working days. The model silent rush from Sedus is the ideal companion for parliamentarians. The mixture of swivel and lounge chair embodies a unique emotional concept that creates calm for the user even in turbulent times. The fully upholstered backrest provides maximum comfort while providing the support the user needs.

A special version of the silent rush model was developed to equip the Austrian Parliament. Sedus produced 200 chairs of the model for the National Council – 197 pieces with a low backrest for the National Council meeting room and 3 pieces with a high backrest for the Presidents. And 80 pieces for the meeting room of the Federal Council – 77 pieces with a low backrest and 3 pieces with a high backrest. The custom-made product was implemented in a special branded version of the leather in cooperation with the Styrian leather specialist Boxmark. The Sedo-Lift mechanism, patented by Sedus, is used for all chairs, and Sedus gives a 30-year guarantee on it.
