It was in August last year that the policeman was supposed to do a routine “stop and check” on a teenage moped driver. Earlier in the summer, the Piteå police must have experienced that young moped drivers drove in a harassing and inciting manner around the police station.

But the moped driver, a 15-year-old boy, had no intention of stopping and the result was a chase lasting several minutes among other road users and in a densely built-up area, which TV4 has previously told.

Therefore, the police are charged

Now the Special Prosecutor’s Chamber and chief prosecutor Nicklas Englund have brought charges against the policeman. It is believed that the policeman did not follow the Police Authority’s own rules regarding pursuit of two-wheeled vehicles, and believes that the boy was in an unprotected and vulnerable position.

– Pursuit of motorcycles and mopeds should only take place if it is a serious crime or if the driver proves to be dangerous to other people’s lives and health. That rule is clear, says Nicklas Englund to SVT Norrbotten.

When the several-minute long chase ended and the 15-year-old was stopped, he was reported for illegal driving.

The verdict against the police in Piteå is expected to be handed down at the end of April.
