Domestic video games (consoles, PCs, mobiles) are currently having a better fiscal year than the previous one with a turnover of 1 billion euros and an operating profit of 238 million euros, but Sega has lowered its targets due to slightly worse than expected sales. There is at least one that has nothing to be ashamed of, it’s Sonic Frontiers, which totaled 2.9 million copies distributed as of December 31st. Sega is also satisfied with the sales of Persona 5 Royal, which has 1.3 million copies distributed on the same date on its new platforms (PS5, Xbox Series, Switch and Steam) knowing that these sales are in addition to the 2 million already previously made on PS4.

For the rest, however, sales did not quite meet expectations. Between April and December 2022, the publisher distributed 20.7 million games, with a download ratio of 66%. The annual objective which was to sell 34.2 million games has been lowered to 28.2 million (which will still be a little better than the 27.2 million of the previous year).
Regarding distribution volumes between April and December, the Sonic franchise leads the way with 6.7 million games sold, ahead of Persona (2 million), Total War (1.7 million) and Like a Dragon (1.7 million) . The upcoming release of Like a Dragon: Ishin is expected to easily surpass the 2 million mark by the end of the fiscal year on March 31.
In the free-to-play department, Hatsune Miku: Colorful Stage remains the main contributor ahead of Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis and Sega Pocket Club Manager. Free-to-play generated a turnover of 336 million euros between April and December, not far from traditional games (395 million euros).
Note that the entire Sega Sammy group raised its objectives for the entire fiscal year, mainly thanks to the pachinko/pachislot sector. The group’s annual financial year should end with a turnover of 2.7 billion euros, an operating profit of 322 million euros and a net profit of 225 million euros.
