The Secretary of Public Education (SEP) has announced that suspend classes face-to-face in certain basic education schools due to the environmental contingency that is being presented for extraordinary reasons.

In accordance with the provisions of the SEP’s 2023 school calendar, next Friday, May 5, will mean a new bridge for preschool, primary and secondary students. Although it is not established as an official holiday in the Federal Labor Law, the anniversary of the Battle of Puebla is commemorated in public schools and therefore they should not attend face-to-face classes.

Before this bridge arrives, the authorities in the state of Guanajuato have decided, together with the SEP, that classes are suspended in schools, due to the high levels of contamination in the environment, after the declaration of the environmental contingency and They will not be able to go to the halls until the effects of the fire generated in the municipal garbage dump in the downtown area have dissipated.

Mayor Alejandro Navarro, together with Civil Protection and the state SEP, opted for the decision that face-to-face classes at the preschool, primary and secondary level are suspended, since May 3 due to the high levels of environmental contingency in the western area. Guanajuato and until further notice, to avoid health effects from the smoke released after the fire in the dump. For this reason, it is most likely that the return to schools will take place until Monday, May 8, after the bridge for the Day of the Battle of Puebla.

Among the neighborhoods that suspend classes in the May 2023 school calendar due to this extraordinary environmental contingency, are: Noria Alta, Fraccionamiento de los Santos, Marfil, Burócrata, Villa Hermosa, Los Ameros, Zapote, Paxtitlán, Pastita, Huertas, Zona Centro , Little towns of Rocha, Tropezón, Las Teresas, Peñitas, Lomita de la Yerbabuena and Villa Jacarandas. In addition, other outdoor activities are suspended, as well as the sale of food on public roads, visits to bars and canteens, and it is prohibited to take out the garbage until otherwise indicated.

The SEP authorities have not yet confirmed whether students will be able to return to classes in schools behind the bridge for the anniversary of the Battle of Puebla on May 5 and if they do so, preschool, primary, and secondary students must wear face masks and avoid exposure to the open air for a long time, until the environmental contingency is lifted in said area of ​​the state.
