The Minister of Economy, Sergio Massa, highlighted on Monday the decision of the governments of Argentina and Brazil to start working on the goal of “a common currency for both countries and with the invitation of other countries in the region.”

He did it by participating in the Government House in the opening of a business meeting headed by Presidents Alberto Fernández and Inácio Lula Da Silva.

Within this framework, when meeting with the head of the Brazilian Treasury, Fernando Haddad, Massa commented: “The decision of both governments and both ministries is to start working, to take the first step on a long road that we must travel in order to a common currency of both countries.

Within this framework, when being consulted by other nations, Massa made special mention of the neighboring country of Uruguay, considering it the “younger brother” of Mercosur.

“Uruguay is one of the smaller brothers of Mercosur. And Brazil and Argentina have the responsibility of taking care of him like any younger brother”; he synthesized.
