Shakira's problems with the Treasury, protagonists of the new Movistar+ thriller

Movistar Plus+ has announced a new original series by Diego San José that is already causing great excitement on social networks. This is Celeste, a fiction that is reminiscent (very much) of the problems that the Colombian singer Shakira has had with the Treasury in recent years. And the plot of this thriller tells the story of an inspector who faces the most important case of her career: prove that a renowned Latin music star resides in Spain and must pay his taxes.

A dizzying thriller around the grayest character I can think of. It is a persecution to the limit within the gray and depressing universe of the Tax Agency. Like Zodiac, but with personal income tax, advances its creator, screenwriter of cinematic hits such as Eight Basque Surnames or Vota Juan. A co-production by 100 Balas (The Mediapro Studio) and the Telefónica company that is scheduled to premiere in 2024, which they trusted since the idea was presented to them.

That’s right Celeste

The story of Diego San José revolves around Celeste, a great star of Latin music. A global phenomenon that fills stadiums with each of her concerts, that she has her own perfume, her own brand of lingerie and long hair, but that is in the sights of the Spanish Tax Agency. Inspector Sara Santano will be in charge of proving that this popular singer does not pay her taxes in our country and that she owes twenty million to the public coffers. Santano will have to park his life to go through Celeste’s and see that he spent 184 days here.reads the synopsis.

Shakira’s pact with the Prosecutor’s Office

Shakira managed to avoid trial for six crimes against the Treasury by agreeing in extremis with the Prosecutor’s Office. The one from Barranquilla acknowledged tax fraud and accepted a three-year prison sentence than not to comply due to lack of criminal record. Likewise, he agreed to pay a sum of seven million euros, putting an end to six hard years of judicial proceedings.

The accusation demanded that Gerard Piqué’s ex-partner receive eight years in prison and a fine of 23.8 million euros for six crimes. The singer was accused of having evaded up to 14.5 million euros between 2012 and 2014, period of time in which he already lived in Barcelona with the former Catalan soccer player, and therefore, he should have paid taxes to the Spanish Treasury. He was also accused of having created a network of shell companies to hide income and divert money.
