Marked by pending issues such as insecurity in the capital and attention to the victims of the 2017 earthquakes, as well as those of the serious accidents in the Metro, Claudia Sheinbaum fully enters the dispute over the presidential candidacy of Morena between claims of even floor of the supporters of their rivals. However, it also leaves important processes related to public policies on social development, mobility and combating climate change incomplete…

MEXICO CITY (Process).– The anticipated and hasty separation of Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo from the Government Headquarters of Mexico City to pursue her presidential aspirations, leaves more pending and criticism from the people of the capital than acknowledgments of the work done in one of the largest cities in the world.

Until the last day of her 4.5-year term, on Thursday the 15th, the Morenista received complaints from victims of the collapse of Line 12 of the Metro and two days before, on Tuesday the 13th, another “human error” on Line 9 He recalled that he leaves office with a Collective Transportation System (STC) that is falling apart; among other earrings.

Founder of the civil organization Ruta Cívica, Mónica Tapia Álvarez evaluates the promises that Sheinbaum Pardo left unfulfilled. In the first place, she mentions the approval of the General Development Plan (PGD) and the General Land Management Program (PGOT), which should have been ready since 2019 by constitutional order and to determine the fate of the capital in the following 20 years. .

However, just last week, on Thursday the 8th, Sheinbaum sent the projects to the city Congress for discussion. Worse still, he sent them riddled with irregularities, inconsistencies and illegalities, according to specialists, civil organizations and deputies who, since then, have announced the possibility of requesting protection to stop them.

About the “water plan” that implied investment, treatment and sectorization, the activist says: “She left it on track, but not in a high percentage… the issue is critical; she promised she was going to fix it, which is why we chose a female scientist, but she came up short.”

Specialist in Social Policy and Development, graduated from the London School of Economics, Tapia Álvarez also points out the non-compliance with the mobility plan. “They told us that they would make hundreds of kilometers of bike path and nothing, Line 12 has not been fully opened, Line 1 is not finished, nor is the PPC that burned… What was going to change our lives was not. There are more and more Metro lines that are falling apart and unfinished works, ”she denounces.

Another big pending, he says, is the reconstruction of all the houses and buildings damaged by the earthquake on September 19, 2017. “Yes, there have been deliveries, but the numbers initially announced have not been completed. There is no clear data on how much has been delivered, how much is pending, and when it will all run out. As if that were not enough, the closure of the Reconstruction Commission was announced… In this context, the great absentee is an inclusive housing policy, ”she added.

In previous editions, Proceso documented the complaints of the affected families, whose affected buildings have not been attended to after almost six years, as well as construction companies to which the capital’s government owes payment for the work they carried out and delivered years ago.

Also founder of the Aúna México women’s platform, Tapia Álvarez points out insufficient actions to combat climate change and air pollution and, on the contrary, the construction of infrastructure for automobiles.
