Bundesliga club SC Freiburg took action against RB Leipzig after what happened in the cup semifinals. The club sanctioned the spectators who climbed over the fence and entered the interior of the stadium during the 1:5 on Tuesday evening with a stadium ban, the Badeners announced on Friday. The club condemned the events as “clearly crossing borders” and unacceptable. The club left the number of sanctioned spectators open.

Leipzig striker André Silva was hit by a two-euro coin in the middle of the second half while warming up. Then he lay down on the floor, causing emotions to run high. Some Freiburg fans made it into the interior, but were pushed back by stewards.

The bad habit of throwing cups has increased nationwide in recent months and years.

The Freiburg leadership apologized for this incident and stated in a statement: “Throwing cups, lighters, coins or other objects can not only lead to serious consequences for the sports club, up to and including a game being abandoned – above all, numerous people in their health at risk.”

It also said: “The bad habit of throwing cups has increased sharply nationwide in the past few months and years,” explained the people of Breisgau and admitted: “Even in Freiburg, we have to say that cups are regularly thrown from different stands.” Now every single one is Fan “urged to refrain from throwing cups and to oppose this bad habit in the interests of a positive and safe stadium experience”.
