In the English Premier League, Brighton did not have the margins on their side in Saturday’s away game against Tottenham.

The big talking point was a penalty situation in the second half when the match was 1-1. Tottenham player Pierre Emile Højbjerg brought down Kaoru Mitoma in the penalty area, but referee Stuart Atwell did not point to the penalty spot – and the VAR room did not think the referee needed to reconsider his decision.

According to the BBC referee base Howard Webb has now been in contact with Brighton and apologized for the mistake.

Tottenham won the match 2–1. Brighton had three shots on goal, but two of the shots were disallowed after being reviewed on video.

Fifth-placed Tottenham now have a seven-point lead over seventh-placed Brighton.
