Six people were killed in an attack on a bar in eastern Mexico. A woman and five men were killed at the bar in the town of Zacate Colorado, the Veracruz Attorney General said today. The motives and suspects are still being determined. According to media reports, the brother of the bar owner was among the dead.
Mexico has been suffering from a wave of violence for years. Numerous drug cartels and other criminal groups fight for control of areas of influence, smuggling routes and protection money. They often maintain ties to corrupt politicians and security forces who have been waging the drug war against the cartels since 2006.
Most homicides are never solved. Last year, almost 32,000 homicides were registered in the Latin American country with around 126 million inhabitants.
