A group of members of the Misiones Police who were carrying out rural operations in the town of Caraguatay hijacked a Ford Eco Sport vehicle that was circulating full of smuggled foreign cigarettes this afternoon.
The action took place around 2:00 p.m., when the members of the local Police Station in conjunction with the Rural Crimes Division of the Regional Unit III of Eldorado, were carrying out prevention operations in the San Jorge neighborhood, when a vehicle at high speed performed evasive maneuvers to elude patrols.
For this reason, the uniformed officers began a chase along different roads that were difficult to access, until the driver abandoned the vehicle on a rural road, then entering a mountain area.
Upon inspecting the interior, they visualized dozens of boxes containing foreign cigarettes. They reported the case to the Federal Court of Eldorado, who ordered the seizure of the vehicle as well as the merchandise.
The vehicle was transferred to the unit where, with consultations made with the Cybercrime base, it was established that the license plate did not correspond to the vehicle in question, and that the chassis registered a request for kidnapping due to theft.
While the count yielded a total of 28 boxes containing 1,395 cartons of cigarettes, which were also distributed within the door panels. The total capacity exceeded 5,000,000 pesos.
At this time, various agencies are engaged in the search for the driver who would be in the mountain area where he abandoned the vehicle after the police pursuit.
