Does Prince Harry (38) become Prince Pinocchio with his biography? Some of his claims were revealed to be fairy tales – now his ghostwriter speaks up. The man who wrote the memoirs with him.

512 pages of confession, that’s a lot of material for a man who has been a career soldier in his life so far picked up the gun rather than the pen.

That Prince Harry Didn’t write his book alone is nothing new in the world of celebrity biographies. It is interesting that his commissioned author JR Moehringer (59) is now speaking publicly and is obviously protecting his customers.

Some of the prince lies

  • In his memoirs, the 38-year-old writes that King Henry VI, who founded the prestigious boarding school Eton – which he and his brother attended – was his “great-great-great-great-great-great-great-grandfather”. .

The fact is: The direct line of Henry VI. ended after his son Edward of Westminster died as a childless teenager at the Battle of Tewkesbury.

  • In his book, Harry supposedly remembers the moment he was notified that great-grandma Queen Mum died in 2002.

He writes that he was at the elite Eton boarding school when he called to learn that she had died in her sleep on March 30 at the age of 101. According to the British media, that cannot be the case. Because: Harry was on a ski trip in Switzerland with his father Charles and his brother William at the time of his death.

  • Probably one of the most bizarre mistakes: Harry writes in a chapter about what was supposedly the last birthday present from his late mother Diana.

In 1997 he is said to have received an Xbox games console for his 13th birthday, which she is said to have bought for him shortly before her death. When Diana died on August 31, 1997 at the age of 36, Harry was only 12 years old. The problem: The game console only came onto the market in 2001!

All weird mistakes that Prince Harry shouldn’t have made with a ghostwriter AND a fact checker. But his commissioned author doesn’t seem to see it that way…

JR Moehringer rejects the criticism in several tweets. But not in his own words, but in those of another author – and by Harry himself …

Moehringer tweeted a quote from Mary Karr’s The Art of Memoir: “The line between memory and fact is blurred between interpretation and fact.”

And supports this claim with quotes from Harry’s biography: “Whatever the reason, my memory is my memory… There is as much truth in what I remember and how I remember it as there is in so-called objective facts .”

Harry also hints that his mother’s death may have messed up his memory…

“I tore up the wrapping paper, the ribbon. I peeked inside… It was an Xbox. I was pleased. I loved video games. Anyway, that’s the story. (…) My dad said Mom hurt her head, but maybe I was the one with brain damage?”

The death trauma as a reason for untruths? In any case, they don’t make the prince, who has fallen out of favor in the public eye, any more believable…
