'So that children can bathe in peace'

Little Asdri, 6 years old, felt the sea water for the first time in her life, and although it is still quite cold, she just took a good dip.

Of course, under the watchful eye of the lifeguards, who have been present on all the beaches of New York City since this Saturday.

“Well yes, it is the first time that the girl knows the beach and since it is the first time that they are going to open the place, we came so that she could get to know it, because as nothing else it is not taking her to a studio and that, so for her to enjoy of its of its beach,” explains Yordanis Pérez Cortez.

Just like you, we’ve been through so much cold.

Here at Coney Island, the young lifeguards arrived at 10 o’clock in the morning.

Ready and trained to ensure the well-being of people.

Joseph Esleider Piña, enjoys the beach at Coney Island and says:

“So that the children can bathe calmly, one also has to be here to be able to observe it and to what extent they can see the water coming.”

And although they have already opened, some sectors of the beaches will remain closed due to the lack of lifeguards.

Just since December of last year, the city has redoubled its efforts to recruit more beach guards or lifeguardsgiving them better opportunities and making the application process easier for candidates.

As part of the incentives, lifeguards this year will receive a payment of $22 per hour and also a bonus of $1,000 for those who return to work this season.

Jat Jordan brought his 3-year-old son, who did not hesitate to get into the water.

“I can swim, but they do it better. I thank the city for giving us all security on the beach. $22 an hour is not enough to take care of my son. It should be double that,” says Jordan.

“Magnificent, that is, it gives more security to families to be able to come and enjoy what our beautiful country provides, it gives one joy to be able to come and enjoy the few months of heat that we fear,” says Isaba Rosado.

Remember that lifeguards will be present until 6 pm. After that it is prohibited to go into the sea
