MIAMI.- The Republican presidential candidate and governor of Florida, Ron DeSantis, submitted a policy proposal immigration, in some parts known in the country, during an event in a border city of Texas.

DeSantis, without explaining how, vowed to end birthright citizenship, complete construction of the border wall and send US forces into Mexico to fight drug cartels.

The sweeping immigration plan largely reflects policies implemented by former President Donald Trump, according to some experts.

A portion of DeSantis’s proposals would require the overturning of legal precedents, the approval of other countries, and even an amendment to the United States Constitution.

Despite the difficulties, DeSantis stated that “for decades, leaders of both parties have made empty promises about border security, and now is the time to act to stop the invasion once and for all.”

He added: “As president, I will declare a national emergency on day one and we will not rest until we build the wall, shut down illegal entry and win the war against the drug cartels. There are no excuses. We will do it”.

The DeSantis campaign also pledged to release more precise details about the announced policies in the coming weeks.

Despite not mentioning Trump directly, DeSantis did refer to the “unfinished border wall,” which has been interpreted as a hint at the former president and his rival in the Republican primary.

As president, Trump tried to build a wall along the 1,950-mile border between the United States and Mexico, but the project was cut short for not being re-elected when voters favored Joe Biden, now president of the United States.

Similarly, DeSantis’ immigration program includes ending the policy that currently allows the release of illegal immigrants into the country until the court date.

In addition, it seeks to reinstate the policy known as “Remain in Mexico,” which would require Mexican approval and allow asylum seekers to wait in Mexico for hearings in US immigration courts.

The issue of immigration, as it has been in recent campaigns, is a major factor among the White House candidates, both Republicans and Democrats.
