The romantic comedy is one of the film genres that presents the most mixed reactions every time a new title is released. However, the new project under the direction of Dave Franco, Somebody I Used to Knowgives a different and innovative twist to this type of plot, adding an unconventional love story to the production that is already available on Prime Video.

In this feature film, relationships serve as the backdrop for the most important kind of love there is: self-love. As TV producer Ally (Alison Brie) returns to her hometown only to rediscover an old childhood love and make deep connections with a new person in her life, she understands the value of staying true to herself and how romance plays a role. on that journey of self-discovery.

It is said that there is no place like home and in Ally’s case, the much-needed break from her busy work schedule is enough to make her reassess her priorities in her life. As she looks at her previews, she accidentally bumps into her ex-boyfriend Sean (Jay Ellis) at a restaurant and their connection is still as powerful as she was in the past. However, time has passed and many things have changed in the hometown of the protagonist.

Sean is not an available man as he is about to marry Cassidy (Kiersey Clemons), a woman whose personality resembles Ally’s when she was dating Sean. The more the protagonist becomes involved in this couple’s relationship, the messier the situation becomes. This leads her to question her destiny in love and how she has changed her identity over the years.

In addition to being the protagonist of the story, Alison Brie was also part of the production team by co-writing the script with Dave Franco. The actress has developed various comedic roles over the years, but she has rarely been able to play a romantic lead, except in projects like Sleeping with Other People and The Five-Year Engagement.

Days before the film’s premiere, on February 10, Franco, who also co-wrote this story, said in a statement that his love for romantic comedies encouraged him to lead this project. “Alison and I love romantic comedies and were inspired by classics from the 80’s and 90’s. We couldn’t be more excited to be working with Jay and Kiersey, who are great born performers, able to bring levity and drama to life. equal measure”.

The cast of this production is complemented by actors Danny Pudi (Community), Julie Hagerty (Plane!), Haley Joel Osment (The sixth Sense), Amy Sedaris (BoJack Horseman), Evan Jonigkeit (file 81) and Zoë Chao (The Afterparty).
