The Algerian oil and gas company (Sonatrach) obtained an award. The Sonatrach group announced on its Facebook page that the Algerian Petroleum Institute (IAP) has obtained an invention patent. This is a certificate based on the development of a process allowing the evaluation of total organic carbon.
Indeed, the company revealed via a press release made public, this Saturday, January 14, 2023, that the institute under Sonatrach has obtained an innovation title. It is the Algerian National Institute of Industrial Property (INAPI) which attributes this patent, which concerns the estimation of total organic carbon in gas reservoirs using a simultaneous system of seismic and genetic reflection.
It is the professor-doctor of the Algerian Petroleum Institute in the Department of Geophysics, Geology and Reservoir Engineering, Dr Sid Ali Ouadfeul, who is at the origin of this invention, thus allowing the calculation of total organic carbon (TOC ). In addition, the researcher offered with his invention the possibility of regulating and measuring the oil potential in gas reservoirs.
What ranking for Algeria for oil and gas discoveries in 2022?
Algeria ranked first in the Arab world in terms of new oil and gas discoveries in the first eight months of the current year 2022, according to the Organization of Arab Petroleum Exporting Countries (OAPEC). The organization specified in a report contained in its monthly bulletin that Algeria recorded, from the beginning of this year until the end of last August, seven new discoveries, including four oil discoveries and three gas.
In this ranking, Algeria is followed by the Emirates, which recorded five new discoveries between January and August 2022 (3 discoveries for oil, 2 for gas), Saudi Arabia with five gas discoveries, then Egypt with two discoveries (one for oil and one for gas), as well as Syria with one gas discovery. Thus, OAPEC countries made in the first eight months of 2022 a total of 21 oil and gas discoveries.
During the second quarter of this year, OAPEC member states recorded eight new discoveries, including four in Algeria and four in the United Arab Emirates.
