Sony Xperia 1 V may have LG’s optical zoom system, 48 MP cameras, Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and more

Sony is expected to launch the next generation of the Xperia 1 in the middle of the second half of 2023. Known as the Xperia 1 V, this top-of-the-line phone is expected to bring several improvements in terms of cameras and hardware. According to new rumors released on Monday (02) by the leaker ZACKBUKS of Weibo, the model can have great advances in optical zoom.

The informant claims that the Xperia 1 V will be one of the first cell phones in the world with the “Optical Telephoto Zoom Module”, a new camera module produced by LG Innotek that offers several advantages, such as support continuous optical zoom ranging from 4x to 9x — almost twice as large as the Xperia 1 IV — and slimmer dimensions, ideal for the phone.

This means that Sony may no longer use its own varifocal telephoto lenses — developed by the “Alpha Professional Camera & Sensor” arm in partnership with Taiwanese manufacturers to adopt LG solutions, in order to reduce the projection of the smartphone camera block and increase its optical zoom capability.

Rumors claim that the cell phone will have the same main sensor as the iPhone 14 Pro, in addition to an ultra-wide-angle lens with a 48 MP sensor and a telephoto lens with a focal length of 70-200 millimeters and a 48 MP sensor. There are those who say that the smartphone will have a fourth camera, but we still do not know its specifications.

Parallel to this, a popular Japanese leaker released benchmark tests that reiterate the Xperia 1 V’s hardware specs. device should leave the factory with Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and 12GB of RAM, plus it runs Android 13. Its OpenCL score reached 11,647, which is too much even for the mighty Adreno 740 GPU.

Although this rumor is doubtful, there is no doubt that the Xperia 1 V will be one of the most powerful phones of 2023. model may be released in April 2023as speculated by leakers, which would be a month earlier than its predecessor.

Sony Xperia 1 V Leaks Hint at Big Cameras and New Shortcut Buttons

The speculations about the Sony Xperia 1V continues and new leaks detail advanced camera sensors and new shortcut buttons on the device.

Camera details in leaked image indicate an f.1.7 aperture and ISO 64. Furthermore, the Xperia 1 V is supposed to feature a hardware button, which is a bit of a surprise since Sony decided to drop the “Google Assistant” button (customizable shortcut) from the Xperia 1 III on the Xperia 1 IV.

A prototype model of the next generation Xperia was spotted with two buttons on the bottom right, one obviously for the camera, but the other not sure what the function is yet. An extra button might end up being the only design difference between the Xperia 1 IV and the Xperia 1 V. According to the leaker, for example, the generations share the same thickness and length.

Finally, a Weibo user points out the following information related to the camera: “13-26 mm + 24-72 mm + 70-210 mm”. That is, all three cameras in the main rear-photo rig would offer multi-degree optical zooms.

Expectations about the Sony Xperia 1 V are high, rumors have already indicated that the cell phone may have 48 MP cameras with a new telephoto sensor, Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and now a Japanese leaker says this could be the first smartphone in the lineup with an LTPO screen to extend battery life.

The new screen of the Xperia 1 V was pointed out by the Japanese leaker GXp0901. According to him, the smartphone should use a low-temperature polycrystalline oxide LTPO screen, which will considerably increase the battery life of the top-of-the-line.

However, it is also said that this function should only be available when the screen resolution is set to less than 4K, which does not make much sense, even more so if we consider that this is the configuration that demands the most processing and battery consumption and not in Full HD+.

Other expected improvements for the Xperia 1 V still include four 48 MP photo sensors in the main camera, which should still have the most powerful telephoto sensor ever seen in the line.

The processor should be the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, a nice upgrade over the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 in the Xperia 1 IV, which has been known to overheat during heavy use.

More powerful: Sony Xperia 1V expected to have 48 MP cameras, new telephoto sensor and SD 8 Gen 2

Reports have already indicated some possible specifications of the Xperia 1 V, which should bring four 48-megapixel photo sensors. Now a new source has published more information on Weibo that suggests an even more powerful telephoto camera on Sony’s next top of the line.

The source mentions that the Xperia 1 V will have pixel binning technology that merges 4 pixels into 1 to generate 12 megapixel images with 48 MP sensors. This technique allows you to improve light capture even in challenging conditions.

It is also said that the main sensor should be similar to the one used by the iPhone 14 Pro, which adopts the same technology, while the ultra wide angle will have 48 MP with 1/2.4 inches.

The 48 MP telephoto sensor should have a focal length of 70-200mm, a nice upgrade over the Xperia 1 IV which has a variable focus distance between 85-125mm. Therefore, it is possible to assume that this telephoto sensor must be equivalent to a 24 mm camera with optical zoom that varies between 2.9 and 8.3 times.

Finally, it is also said for sure that the Xperia IV should have the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, which should be announced in November this year with a GPU superior to that of the Apple A16 Bionic and greater energy efficiency.

Sony Xperia 1 V should come equipped with quad 48 MP sensors, says rumor

THE sony launched last Thursday (1st), the Xperia 5 IV as the newest flagship smartphone from the manufacturer, equipped with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset, and other relevant novelties, such as the powerful photographic set that includes a triple rear camera module with 12 MP resolution.

Although these sensors bring high image quality, rumors suggest that the manufacturer intends to further improve the cameras of its next smartphones. Apparently, the Xperia 1 V or Xperia 1 Pro models should arrive with four 48 MP sensors aligned with optimizations in the post-processing of photos and videos.

Considering the current generations that use only 12 MP, the upgrade that should be implemented by Sony will be welcome in order to put its next cell phones in the running against rivals of the same category that should arrive with 200 MP cameras, like the next Galaxy line S23, for example.

According to informants, the main camera will bring other news besides more megapixels, such as a complete 48 MP DPAF system with autofocus and 1 inch + 1/1.3 inch + 1/1.7 inch lenses, the latter being a sensor periscope for capturing long distance images.

The 48 MP + configuration 48 MP + 48 MP + 48 MP should be one of the points that will be used by the manufacturer to highlight the improvements over the previous generation. Despite the scarcity of information, considering the latest release, it is possible that Sony will opt for the current generation of Qualcomm’s SoC, the Plus version of the SD 8 Gen 1.
