Spain will be in the Olympic Games in Paris after the victory of England

The Spanish under-21 team qualified for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games after Saturday they obtained a pass to the semifinals of the European Championship in the category with the victory against Switzerland in extra time (2-1) and that this Sunday England, who does not compute for the three places available when competing in the Olympics as Great Britain, did the same after eliminating Portugal (1-0).

Santi Denia’s team thus tied the first goal it had set in the European under-21 where he pursues what would be his sixth title. Paris 2024 will be the twelfth Olympic Games in the soccer competition for Spain, the sixth since the format for under-23 players was introduced in 1992, with the exception of summoning soccer players over that age.

A regulation that establishes for Paris 2024 that the bulk of the teams is made up of players born from 2001 onwards, which leaves nine footballers from the current squad for the European Under-21 out of this selection; and seven of them key pieces for Santi Denia.

Abel Ruiz (the captain), Sergio Gómez, Juan Miranda, Rodrigo Riquelme, Víctor Gómez, Oihan Sancet, Hugo Guillamn, Rodri Sánchez and Aitor Paredes They are the ones that do not meet the cut and in which, in principle, the coach will spend the three places available for the older ones.

In total, Spain adds to its Olympic record a gold medal (Barcelona’92) and three silver (Antwerp 1920, Sydney 2000 and Tokyo 2020). In addition to Spain, the others classified for Paris 2024 so far are: France -host-, Israel, the United States and the Dominican Republic; missing eleven selections to complete the 16 participants.
