The beer will soon be flowing again on the Theresienwiese in Munich. We reveal how much the Maß costs at the Spring Festival, which bands are performing and whether spontaneous visits are possible.
The construction of the spring festival on the Theresienwiese in Munich is still ongoing. The first attractions and the tents are already in place. Already next week on Friday (April 21st) it should be tapped. A special focus is on the beer price, which could also be a foretaste of the Wiesn.
At the Oktoberfest, the largest folk festival in the world, the average price for a beer was 13.37 euros. The Paulaner brewery also almost cracked the 13 euro mark this year at the famous strong beer festival on the Nockherberg.
That’s how much the mug in the Augustiner tent costs
But it shouldn’t be that steep at the Spring Festival. This year, the Maß Augustiner will cost 12.40 euros in the Bayernland marquee, which is run by the Schöniger family. Experience has shown that it will be a little more expensive in the Hippodrome festival tent, once run by ex-Wiesn host Josef “Sepp” Krätz. The price of this tent are still unknown.
Less is also due for food dishes than at the Oktoberfest. The schnitzel, the pork knuckle and the organic goulash cost 17.90 euros. Half a chicken is five euros cheaper.
Are spontaneous visits possible?
At the start of the festival, visitors can look forward to free beer. The procession begins at the Zirkusspitz (Theresienhöhe 5), followed by the tapping. From then on, a show band performs every night, including guest appearances by DJ Ötzi (April 24), the Cagey Strings (April 25) and party band Manyana (May 2).
In contrast to the Wiesn, the two festival tents are less crowded during the week. Spontaneous visits are usually easier to do from Monday to Friday: you can usually find a place. At the weekend it often gets tighter – it’s worth making a reservation, although this is associated with a minimum purchase of 50 tokens for 10 euros per table (8-10 people). A few tables are still available in the evenings on the operator’s reservation sites.
