As Star Wars: Episode 3 – Revenge of the Sith was released in cinemas in 2005, sobering fans had long since spread. The first two parts of prequel trilogy received very mixed feedback from the community. The attempt of George Lucas, to give the star saga a contemporary touch for the millennium, met with rejection from large parts of the audience. Too uninspired, too stuffed with half-baked CGI and trimmed too much for kitsch The Phantom Menace and attack of the Clone warriors. With Revenge of the Sith George Lucas managed to get a conciliatory conclusion. That was largely due to the final battle between Obi-Wan and Anakin that eventually produced Darth Vader, one of pop culture’s most beloved villains.

The final fight in Episode 3 should have ended very differently

Beneath the mask and suit, the Dark Lord of the Sith’s body is quite battered. Blame that little is left of the original Anakin Skywalker rests with his former teacher, who died in what seemed to be the final confrontation on the volcanic planet Mustafar former Padawan cut off both legs and one arm.

But actually things should be different. Nick Gillard, in his capacity stunt coordinator of the prequel trilogy, revealed in an interview the originally planned end of the fight. So should Anakin Skywalker hold his former teacher in a chokehold after his lightsaber slipped from his grasp.

The end of Anakin Skywalker – all just an accident?

“I’m sorry it has to end like this, Master” would have been Anakin’s last words to Obi-Wan. The Jedi master would then have slipped out of the grasp of his former student and using the Force summoned his lightsaber. Anakin would have been accidentally severed various limbs. That from George Lucas According to stunt coordinator Nick Gillard, the originally planned ending was said to have been very coherent.

However, the creator of the Star Wars series decided to cancel this “accident” and preferred an ending where Obi-Wan deliberately tried to destroy his former student. Ultimately, the badly injured Anakin Skywalker was able to escape from Darth Sidious be rescued and subsequently became the Dark Sith Lord Darth Vader.
