On Wednesday, the stage is set for pig slaughter at Farmen kendis as part of the weekly assignment.

A group of participants takes part in both the actual slaughter and the dismemberment of the pig. The weekly task is that they must prepare specific parts of the animal.

In the same vein, celebrity chef Trond Moi (53) uses the opportunity to make meals out of the pig. Then Marit Adeleide Andreassen (56) and Malin Nesvoll (33) are set up to clean the intestines, to make sausages.

They reacted to that.

– Enough

It was Moi, Andreassen and Nesvoll who were given responsibility for the pig during the week’s assignment. On the first day, the slaughter took place and the animal was eviscerated. The next day, partition was on the agenda.

Nesvoll says that she wanted to be involved in the whole process. When she and Andreassen were given responsibility for bowel cleansing, which was not part of the weekly assignment, she reacted.

The background for this is the division of labor between women and men earlier in the programme, which several reacted to. By then, Nesvoll already felt that they were not slacking off on certain tasks. With that in mind, she reacted to the fact that they did not participate in dismembering the animal.

– We were supposed to have the shitty job. We sat and flushed the intestines for shit, while Trond had to do the other job. Then we thought: “Now that’s enough”. We were underappreciated and felt that no one saw our worth. Then we sat down on the stairs, says Nesvoll with a twinkle in his eye.

– Trond had always been good at not being old-fashioned about gender roles, but when we were “bossed” around for a short moment, we felt that he was a bit of a jerk, she adds.

Andreassen says that from before they were shocked by the gender roles and women’s rights in the 1920s, something they had read in the farm book.

– At the same time, we felt a bit like servants as we sat and cleaned pig intestines in the roasting pan, a job that was not part of the weekly assignment, says Andreassen.

Apologized quickly

Nesvoll says that the strike lasted around 45 minutes, and that Moi was quick to apologize.

– It was so nice. He bit into it. After that, it was just a dream and it was one of the best assignments I had.

The chef himself describes the situation as thoughtless on his part. He was stressed because the work had to be done quickly, due to the hot weather. In addition, only one person could cut the pig at a time.

When the large farmer Ingrid Vik Lysne approached him and explained the situation, he took action.

– I suddenly got upset, because they felt left out and I should have involved them. So then I went up to them and apologized. It’s never nice to do something others don’t like, but it was with no bad intentions, says Moi.

As chef, it is Moi who takes much of the responsibility for cooking on the farm. He greatly appreciated the big farmer who made him aware of the situation.

– It is part of the experience to include others and let them join in, he points out.

Andreassen says that everything went well after Moi apologized.

– When kind Trond came and begged for mercy, we were not hard to pray. It was really just a small protest and we were heard by the big farmer Ingrid, who again advised Trond to talk a little with the servants. Then everything was fine.

– One of the finest

After the gang had butchered the animal, they used all the raw materials to cook. That is one of the reasons why Nesvoll saw the pig slaughter as one of the best weekly assignments. She also says that despite the strike, everything ended well.

Moi also thinks it was positive to use the whole animal.

– I also think it was one of the finest things. That is what is meant. The pig died in the best possible way, and then he was prepared in a fantastically fine way, says the chef.

– It was great that the girls hit me in the head and let me know when I was going the wrong way. It was very nice that they took it up, he concludes.
