Morelos.- The fire in the wooded area of Cuernavaca, Morelos, has lasted for more than 48 hours, in which 16 homes have been affected and 4 elderly people were evacuated.

Rubén Castañeda Hernández, director of the Cuernavaca Fire Department, gave local journalists this balance of the conflagration that began last Monday afternoon in the border area with the Municipality of Ocuilan, State of Mexico.

Neighbors of the Del Bosque neighborhood warned since yesterday about the proximity of the flames to their homes and asked for urgent support. The fire has been attended by bodies of the three levels of Government.

In its latest report, the state government reported that the fire is 100 percent contained, 50 percent controlled, and 20 percent liquidated.

Enrique Torres, a resident of the area, shared on social networks the uncertainty that the settlers are going through due to this situation.

“Difficult moments, hard moments of thinking that your home could disappear into the ashes. Moments of solidarity between neighbors. Moments of reflection. Moments of gratitude to Civil Protection Firefighters and the Fire Department and Conafor personnel.

“Time to separate from your dogs and order them with friends and have the essentials ready to evacuate the place at any time. We are fine and we have a house. A lot of fire, a lot of uncertainty, a lot of anguish, a lot of exhaustion. But we are still here to thank you,” added.

He specified that this Wednesday 80 elements are working on the four fronts of the polygon, of which 72 are combatants from the dependencies that make up the State Team for Forest Fire Incident Management (EEMI), made up of the Secretariat for Sustainable Development (SDS). , National Forestry Commission (Conafor), Morelos Civil Protection State Coordination (CEPCM) and the National Commission of Protected Natural Areas (Conanp).

Soldiers from the Ministry of National Defense (Sedena), Cuernavaca Firefighters and eight technicians also support this contingency.

“The suppression works that are carried out to maintain the line of control consist of actions to strengthen the fire breaks, cooling the sources of heat, as well as surveillance tours over the entire perimeter covered by the incident,” he explained.

Ground support, he explained, is carried out through 11 specialized vehicles, including two Conafor fire trucks, a CEPCM fire truck and three Cuernavaca Fire Departments.

“It should be noted that so far there are no other reports of affected homes; however, CEPCM authorities continue to monitor the urban areas surrounding the incident,” he added.

He reported that the latter two are being cared for by 38 combatants from the Tepoztlán fire management protection brigade, the Conafor/SDS rural fire management brigade, Conanp, and Tepoztlán Environmental Protection.
