Unbeatable king of the box office at the start of the year, Super Mario Bros has just passed the threshold of one billion in global receipts, reports the Hollywood Reporter. The new production Illumination (Minions) is currently the most viewed film of 2023.
The adaptation of Nintendo’s famous video game reached this impressive milestone in just 26 days. This is the tenth animated film in the history of cinema to collect such a sum, and the first feature film of 2023 to do so.
In the USA, Super Mario Bros broke all records, achieving the best start in history for an animated film, ahead of Frozen 2released in 2019.

In Super Mario Brosthe famous plumber with overalls and mustache and his brother Luigi confront the dreadful Bowser to save the Mushroom Kingdom where Princess Peach reigns.
Released on April 5 in France, the feature film directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic also offered the best start of the year in French cinemas, in front of Asterix and Obelix: The Middle Empire.
A month later, Super Mario Bros totaled 4,820,259 tickets sold. The film, which only loses a fraction of its audience every week, fills up in particular thanks to the school holidays.
