The Transitory Criminal Chamber of the Supreme Court declared null and void the sentence that acquitted Guillermo Bermejo of the crime of affiliation to the terrorist organization Shining Path and ordered a new oral trial against the congressman Democratic Peru.

The Judiciary declared the appeals for annulment of the superior prosecutor Gino Quiroz and the anti-terrorist prosecutors Milko Ruiz and Elmer Cruzado founded and resolved to annul the sentence that acquitted the parliamentarian in January of this year and ordered that a new superior court carry out the oral trial and issue a pronouncement on the accusation against him.

The prosecution had requested 20 years in prison against Guillermo Bermejo, arguing that he belonged to the terrorist organization Sendero Luminoso and, as such, made trips to terrorist camps in the interior of the Ene River Valley, Apurímac and Mantaro (Vraem) to receive instructions, ideological and political indoctrination, as well as training in the use of weapons.

In addition, according to the accusation, Bermejo Rojas would have been commissioned by the terrorist commanders to search for contacts in other international terrorist organizations.

Bermejo, whom others sentenced for terrorism recognized as ‘Che’ during the oral trial that has been annulled, would have held clandestine meetings with Víctor Quispe Palomino, Jorge Quispe Palomino and other members of the Central Committee of Sendero Luminoso settled inside the Vraem.

Said trips were made between February and March 2009 to the Huancamayo camp, accompanied by the sentenced hiker Wilder Satalaya Apagueño alias “Koki”, Sergio González, Richard Laurencio del Valle and others.
