MTA Board gives green light to congestion pricing

This week, in Community Dialogue, we talked about this with Mayra Aldás, from the Riders Alliance organization.

But now, the tariff, which was to start at the end of this month, faces an uncertain future.

1. Mayra, your reaction to the governor’s decision. We know that congestion tolling is an initiative that your organization has fought for for years. Do they feel betrayed?

2. And for many this decision represents a political move to help Democratic legislators in the November elections. Do you think that after the elections, Hochul will change his mind and support this initiative again,

3. We know that there are urgent repairs pending, particularly in the metro. You already mentioned some examples. According to the Riders Alliance, how else will the lack of this funding affect New Yorkers?

4. And having mentioned that, what alternatives, what other sources of financing exist to inject those funds and that money that the MTA needs.

5. As you know, there are groups, politicians and many New Yorkers who are open to congestion pricing and have applauded the governor’s decision. They claim that they already face a high cost of living and this would represent an additional burden. What is your message to them?

6. What do you ask of Governor Hochul. What are you focusing your fight on now?
