Suzuki’s first all-electric model isn’t expected to hit the road until 2025.

Suzuki is finally going electric. The Japanese brand has unveiled the eVX concept which announces its first 100% electric commercial model, a compact SUV scheduled for 2025. The least we can say is that the manufacturer will have taken its time before making a change yet inevitable. If it wishes to continue selling vehicles in Europe after 2035, Suzuki will have to switch its catalog to 100% electric.

Presented at the New Delhi show, the eVX takes up a few details the size of the current S-Cross. 4.30 meters long, it has an angular appearance with marked features and a very imposing shield. Technically, Suzuki’s first electric model will borrow a lot from… Toyota. Indeed, it would be based on a platform that will be shared with its Japanese competitor. For the time being, the manufacturer does not communicate on the engine part of the eVX and is content to indicate the presence of a 60 kWh battery. Suzuki announces no less than 550 km of autonomy, a value that must be immediately tempered insofar as it is based on the Indian certification cycle, the MIDC. The WLTP cycle, the benchmark in Europe, should be much less generous.

Is the eVX an electric S-Cross?

The choice of the New Delhi show to announce such an important model in the manufacturer’s history could also raise questions. In reality, it is not so surprising insofar as Suzuki is particularly well established there. It is also in India that the manufacturer has chosen to build its future battery factory.

It will therefore be necessary to be patient to find out what the other advantages of the eVX will be. Indeed, Suzuki has not revealed any images of the cabin. As for the technical part, he was content to underline his know-how in terms of all-wheel drive. Finally, the last question concerns the price. Accustomed to charging rather aggressive prices, the Japanese will be particularly scrutinized on its positioning in electric.
