The future looks bright for game development in Sweden and the industry is growing at breakneck speed, but this also means that there must be staff and competence to fill all positions. Something it currently does not do and according to a new report from the computer games industry, within ten years at least 25,000 new game developers will be required to match the current growth rate.
In 2021, 1,348 people were newly employed in game development, but only 616 have managed to complete some form of education connected to the industry. This is not because of a lack of interest, but because there is a lack of actual training places, something that is now quickly hoped to be remedied. The report also mentions that 30-50 percent of everyone who works with game development in Sweden has moved here from another country.
