Tampa breaks world record with largest Cuban sandwich ever

Chefs and volunteers collaborated to create the longest Cuban sandwich in history, reaching a length of just over 365 feet.

Organizers estimate this sandwich can feed more than 750 people and they went to great lengths to keep it fresh.

The event took place in Tampa on July 28 at One Buccaneer Place and was a collaboration between the International Cuban Sandwich Festival and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The volunteers braved climatic challenges to set the record, achieving a sandwich the length of a football field.

René Marquis of the American Culinary Federation led the effort to not only break the record, but also to support those in need.

“Tampa has the oldest Cuban sandwich in the world and now we will have the largest in the world. The best thing of all is that the community has come together to feed those in need,” Marquis told Bay News 9.

After measuring the sandwich, it was taken to Tampa’s New Beginnings Association. Dr. Tom Atchinson expressed his gratitude for the solidarity shown by the community.

“It’s not just about the food that will feed people, but they will think about our veterans and homeless people, and that means a lot,” he said.

With the record of 366 feet reached, the work of packaging the sandwich began, ensuring that it could be distributed to those who need it most so that they too can be part of this gastronomic record.
