This article was underground…

British papers like The Sun are known for harsh words from their commentators. But this even went too far for the otherwise rough islanders: a piece full of hatred about Duchess Meghan (41), written by “Top Gear” moderator Jeremy Clarkson (62). Now even the “Sun” says: “Sorry!”

“The article drew a strong reaction and led to a large number of complaints to IPSO, the independent press regulator,” the Sun wrote in a statement released on Friday.

In the piece, which was perceived as “deeply misogynistic”, has Clarkson, among other things, launched that he hate Meghan “on a cellular level”.

The scandalous text passage with “Game of Thrones” reference: “I can’t sleep at night lying there grinding my teeth and dreaming of the day she (Meghan, editor’s note) must parade naked through the streets of every British city while the crowd yells ‘Shame!’ chanting and throwing excrement at them.”

However, after a gale-force backlash on Twitter, the TV star did a backward roll, asking The Sun to remove the track herself.

His clumsy reference to a scene in ‘Game of Thrones’ went down badly with a lot of people. Clarkson: “I’m appalled that I’ve caused so much pain and will be more careful going forward.”

The “Sun” also felt compelled to say a few words about the scandal column: “The opinions of the columnists are their own, but as publishers we know that freedom of expression comes with responsibility. At The Sun, we regret the publication of this article and we are truly sorry.”

Hear, hear…

Clarkson article sparked outrage

Does Meghan’s freak out on the keyboard have professional consequences for “Top Gear” legend Jeremy Clarkson? Not yet. But politicians are now commenting on the incident.

First Minister of Scotland Nicola Sturgeon (52), who incidentally described Clarkson in the same article as someone he “hates”, said according to The Times: “I think what he said about Meghan Markle was deeply misogynistic and simple just awful and awful.”

Next: “My overwhelming feeling for guys like Jeremy Clarkson is compassion. I mean what makes someone so hateful to write something like that? I think that might give some insight into Jeremy Clarkson and the kind of person he is. Maybe he should just step back and think about life a little more.”

And even the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan (52), commented on Twitter about the scandal: “As Jeremy Clarkson should know very well – words have consequences. The words in his post are no joke — they are dangerous and inexcusable. We are in an epidemic of violence against women and girls, and men with powerful voices need to do better than this.”
