NoIn a statement sent to the Lusa agency, the cultural association warns of the need for a “cultural policy that values the diversity of existing structures linked to theater in the Azores” and that enhances “freedom of artistic creation”.

“It is essential to substantially reinforce the regional budget and municipal budgets for programs to support the activity of cultural agents, as well as the creation of financing mechanisms that allow the sustainability of their programming”, reads the press release.

Teatro de Giz argues that support dedicated to the cultural sector should be “based on criteria of quality and sustainability, transparency and equity, in a logic of opportunity for independence and multiculturalism”.

That non-profit cultural association advances that the anniversary program, called “25 years of restlessness”, will include a “performative ‘workshop’ open to the community, guided by creators Maria Gil and Miguel Bonneville”, from Teatro do Silêncio.

The ‘workshop’, entitled “The Personal is Political”, will take place from April 19 to 23 and is based on a “trilogy of performative lectures that depart from different current and provocative themes”.

“The ‘workshop’, which will take place at Teatro Faialense, after working hours, at 6:30 pm, proposes the writing of original texts, in the first person, using memories, fragments and stories of their lives as raw material, opening space for collective reflection and the debate of ideas”, they point out.

On April 24, at 21:00, there will be a theater performance resulting from the ‘workshop’ and a concert by Cape Verdean Tcheka.

“Although referencing various genres from Cape Verde (batuku, funaná, finason, tabanca, morna and coladera), Tcheka’s music is also an intersection of Brazilian and African pop, folk, jazz, blues and rock”, points out the institution.

Over 25 years, Teatro de Giz, an entity with public utility status in the region, has produced more than 40 of its own productions and organized more than 30 training actions, contributing to the “preservation of the values of ethics, cohesion and inclusion social” on the island of Faial.
