The federations of bikers had mobilized against a technical control four years after the purchase of the vehicle then every two years. According to Le Parisien, the government could finally opt for a move to a technical center after three years after the purchase followed by a three-year rhythm.
The government seems to hear the discontent of the bikers. Last summer, the decree providing for a visit to a technical center after four years after the purchase of a two-wheeler and then every two years had been repealed by the executive. Before the Council of State deemed this removal of control “illegal” just three months ago and forced the government to reinstate it under European law.
The turnaround in the situation had led to a strong mobilization of motorcyclists’ federations but also of the managers of technical centers who felt that they did not have the indications or the means to start carrying out these checks in a short time. According to information from the Parisian“the Ministry of Transport, maneuvering, is preparing to announce that the first control will only take place five years after the entry into service of the vehicle, with then a mandatory visit every three years.”
An entry into force before the start of the school year in September?
In the wake of the decision of the highest French administrative court last fall, Clément Beaune has begun consultations with environmental associations as well as representatives of motorcyclists’ federations in order to agree on “the least penalizing and the most consensual” in view of the new decree. Expected for the month of January, it would finally be put on hold due to a political context already largely occupied by pension reform.
However, Le Parisien already confirms that the technical control will apply to two-wheelers over 50 cm3 and that the tests will consist in particular of checking the emissions of pollutants and the noise level of the vehicles. In addition, the price of these visits should not exceed 50 euros. Regarding the possible date of entry into force of the system, this could occur not before the summer as initially desired by the executive but in the second half. Upstream, the text will be submitted to a public online consultation for a little less than a month.
