The Dutch company Derks converted one Tesla Model 3 in a hearseoffering the possibility of also installing a “starry sky” style interior lining as well as several additional compartments for the transport of various objects.
Derks had to profoundly modify the structure of the Tesla Model 3 to obtain the result that you can see in the images: the platform on which the car rests was elongatedwith the result that the Model 3 hearse touches i 5.56 meters long, about 86cm longer than an original Model 3. The nose, front doors, mirrors, headlights and bumpers have been reused from the original model, while the rest of the cab has been modified: the roof has obviously been lengthened and raised, while retaining a streamlined shape, and the boot lid was completely redone to accommodate the new opening. In addition, the rear doors have also been preserved, even if cut in half, for more convenient access to the side compartments.
Internally we find a partition that separates the driver’s cab from the one where the coffin is transported and along the large side windows have been installed curtains electricity, so as to guarantee greater privacy in case of need. The lighting is managed via i LEDs integrated into the top trim of the car.
This zero-emission hearse is based on a Tesla Model 3 Standard Range Plus capable of producing little more than 300 horsepower thanks to the rear electric motor; the battery is from 53 kWhsufficient to travel, even after the conversion, approx 350km with a single charge.
At the moment there is no price information of this modification: a Model 3 Standard Range Plus starts from €51,990a figure to which we must add the cost of the modification work – in short, this zero-emission hearse is not an economic vehicle, but given how much funerals cost, it won’t be a problem for the specialized companies to recoup the cost.
