The Star Wars Celebration 2023 left several revelations and news, facing what will be the future of the successful franchise. One of the confirmations is the launch of The Acolyte for 2024, series starring Lee Jung-jae and Amandla Stenberg.
But what will this new production focus on, available from next year on Disney Plus?
First announced in 2020, The Acolyte will take place in the last days of the High Republic, when it was thought that the sith had been exterminated and the jedi ruled the galaxy far, far away.
Specifically, it is set a century before the events of Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace. As signaled by Hypebeast, marks the furthest point in time of any live-action Star Wars project.
Leslye Headland is the showrunner of the series and, in her words, it will be like a “Frozen conoce a Kill Bill”. Pure and hard action.
Who are in The Acolyte, the Star Wars series for 2024?
In addition to Lee Jung-jae (The Squid Game, Deliver Us From Evil, Chief of Staff) and Power Stenberg (The Hunger Games, Lemonade, Dear Evan Hansen, The Eddy), stand out in the cast Jodie Turner-Smith, Manny Jacinto, Dafne Keen, Carrie-Anne Moss y Rebecca Henderson.
Turner-Smith spoke with Collider about the project, specifying that, unlike the “happy things” that can be seen in Star Wars, The Acolyte is different.
“Es amazing to see. I can’t wait to see how this show turns out,” said the actress.
Unfortunately the trailer for the series shown at Star Wars Celebration 2023 was only exclusive to convention attendees, but it highlights a saber fight between Moss and Stenberg with a closing sentence: “It’s about power and who gets to use it.”
