Nilam grew up with her younger brother in her hometown of Berlin. She is of Polish and Pakistani descent. She completed her Abitur at a humanistic high school.
It all started when she was 14: Nilam began her acting career as an extra. In 2006 she began her private acting training. She had her first successes in the form of small roles in the series “Turkish for Beginners” and “Everyone Loves Jimmy”.
From 2010 she started her YouTube channel “daaruum” where she published videos about lifestyle topics. In between, Nilam tried her hand at dubbing. In the YouTube world, Nilam was on the up: “daaruum” was one of the 50 most subscribed German-speaking channels!
In 2013 she got a recurring role in the crime series “SOKO Leipzig” as detective Olivia Fareedi. The up-and-coming sporting talent was also seen in other famous thrillers: “Tatort – Room Service” and “Polizeiruf 110: Grenzgänger”.

Despite her success, Nilam closed the YouTube chapter in 2017. For the future she wanted to focus more on her acting career.
And so it happened: in 2017 she was seen on the big screen alongside Kostja Ullmann (“My blind date with life”). Other successes followed: she appeared in the action film “Sweethearts” and starred in the horror hit “Heilstätten”. For the horror role, she won her first Jupiter Award for Best Actress!
She also demonstrated her acting skills in the film “Contra” alongside Christoph Maria Herbst: she played a law student who has to deal with her racist professor. The film was acclaimed by critics. She received the Bavarian Film Prize for her role.
In 2022, Nilam Farooq took part in Who’s Stealing Me. The actress managed to become the presenter Joko Winterscheidt to defeat.

Nilam reveals little about her private life: the actress does not want to reveal whether there is a very special person with her.
As a teenager, Nilam was rather shy, but today the Berliner ticks very differently: She likes to counteract, is combative and knows exactly what she wants.
The actress also likes to travel: Nilam documents her travels through the Balkans and Switzerland on her Instagram account.
