The manufacturer Asus has just unveiled its new ROG Strix and ROG Zephyrus gaming laptops. Available in the coming months, they feature the latest Intel, AMD and Nvidia components. Some models will also feature a 240 Hz QHD screen with mini LED backlighting.

Laptops aimed at gamers are celebrating at the start of 2023. With the launch of Intel’s new thirteenth generation processors, AMD Ryzen and Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 40 graphics chips, the performance of configurations will – again times – take a big leap forward.

This is why, like other manufacturers, Asus announces the upcoming arrival of several gaming laptops, which belong to the ROG Strix and ROG Zephyrus.

In addition to faster internal components, these configurations exploit a new generation of screen. Thus, some models are equipped with an LCD panel that displays images in QHD (2560 x 1600 pixels), with a refresh rate of up to 240 Hz and – above all – with a mini LED backlight ! The latter makes it possible to manage the lighting on 1024 independent zones, in order to optimize the contrast ratio. In addition, the manufacturer announces a maximum brightness of 1100 nits. This screen is called Nebula HDR by the manufacturer.

A more “classic” version of the screen, called Nebula, which uses a “simple” LED backlight, is also available (always with QHD definition and a frequency of 240 Hz). Nebula and Nebula HDR displays are compatible G-Sync and Dolby Vision.

Of course, the manufacturer has also taken the opportunity to offer an ever more sophisticated internal component cooling device. On the other hand, these configurations are equipped with the MUX Switch device, which – combined with Nvidia’s Advanced Optimus technology – makes it possible to optimize the energy consumption of the components and therefore the autonomy of the configurations (when using computers to perform non-game tasks, such as looking at photos, browsing the web and social networks, etc.).

ROG Strix: competitive gaming laptops

The new configurations of this range are as follows:

  • ROG Strix Scar 16
  • ROG Strix Scar 18
  • ROG Strix G16
  • ROG Strix G17
  • ROG Strix Scar 17

These laptops have in common the integration of the new Nebula screen, with the exception of the Scar 16 which can be equipped with the Nebula HDR screen!

For optimal performance, these computers will ship the new Intel processors (up to Core i9-13980HX, with 24 cores, 8P core and 16E core) and Nvidia 40 series graphics chips (up to GeForce RTX 4090 ).

With its new 18-inch format, the ROG Strix Scar 18 is meanwhile a big baby of 3.1 kg. It will be available with the Nebula screen or a Full HD 165 Hz LCD panel.

The ROG Strix Scar 16 and 18 will have a 90 Wh battery and a 100 W USB C charger (or a proprietary 280 or 330 W charger).

For his part, the ROG Strix G16 incorporates the same components as the ROG Stix Scar 16, but with a 16-inch QHD 240 Hz or QHD 165 Hz mini LED screen.

Finally, the ROG Strix Scar 17 and ROG Strix G17 are more conventional 17.3-inch models, which leverage AMD’s upcoming Ryzen chips and an Nvidia 40-series graphics chip. For the display, two options will be offered: Full HD 144 Hz or QHD 240 Hz (ROG Strix Scar G17).

ROG Zephyrus: thin and light gaming computers

In the range of laptops Asus ROG Zephyrus, the Duo 16 is an original model. Indeed, in addition to the latest AMD and Nvidia components, a Full HD IR Webcam (Windows Hello compatible), and six speakers, the configuration includes two screens:

  • The main screen, Nebula HDR or Nebula.
  • A second screen, called ScreenPad Plus, which takes up half the space normally reserved for the keyboard.

The Asus ROG Zephyrus M16 offers almost the same configuration with two exceptions: more than one screen (the same 16-inch Nebula HDR, G-Sync, 1100 nits and QHD 240 Hz). And Intel and Nvidia components this time. All in a 2.1 kg box, which can be enhanced with AniMe Matrix technology (with LEDs that can display different patterns on the back of the laptop).

On the program, we will also find the latest AMD and Nvidia components, a Full HD infrared webcam and the AniMe Matrix back. All in a box weighing only 1.65 kg (or 1.72 kg with AniMe Matrix).

Finally, we will find the Nebula screen (or a Full HD 165 Hz model) on the ROG Zephyrus G16with a 720p webcam, 6 speakers and a 90 W battery.
