The upcoming Atomic Heart looks really good and seems to offer a Soviet version of the Bioshock concept, where we play as a KGB agent in an alternate future. But the developer Mundfish is Russian, which has worried a lot of people considering the many heinous war crimes the country is committing against its neighbor Ukraine.

Many have therefore asked Mundfish about the financing of the game, whether ” target=”_blank”>Russian censorship laws has been applied in the game and if the Russian government has sponsored the project along with other people/organizations promoting the war. This prompted the studio to share a comment on the matter on social media:

Unfortunately, this didn’t exactly make things better as the studio doesn’t even seem to mention what they’re talking about. Do they support Russia’s attack on Ukraine or not? They followed up the tweet with explain that they “do not comment on politics or religion”despite making a game about a KGB agent working for a future Soviet, which is closely linked to communism and thus a commentary that falls on its own absurdity.

Finally, they also posted one tweet which makes it appear that Mundfish considers consider people as “spammers” if they ask about their attitude to Russia’s war and ask about the funding – although it is a reasonable question because many people are interested in the title, but do not want to support Russia or sponsor any propaganda.

One of the many who have complained about these rather ambiguous tweets is Remedy Entertainment developer Sergey Mohov. He writes:

It is a reasonable question to ask, can one be neutral about the war against Ukraine and the crimes against its civilian population, or is it just to help Russia? Does the risk of supporting Russia change your opinion of Atomic Heart?
