The MMORPG World of Warcraft has been racking up stories since 2004. We’ve seen everything from long quest lines to marriage proposals. Unfortunately, not all of them are good and emotional, since interacting with so many people always leads (by pure mathematics) to come across despicable individuals.
The case at hand is especially petty. The story begins in the dungeon of Leatherleaf Hollow. The group was advancing towards the final boss when one of the tanks, paladin, stood up and claimed the group 50,000 gold coins for him and his partner, who was also a tank. If they didn’t hand over the money, the dungeon wouldn’t be completed.
Call it blackmail or armed robbery. The point is that the players in the group were not only being blackmailedalso kidnapped because they couldn’t invite a substitute. The affected shared their experience on Reddit and that’s when the cake was discovered. The paladin is a manual blackmailer: he does not allow you to advance in dungeons (usually with keys) unless he receives the money. The community’s anger spilled over Reddit and onto other social networks.
