Ecuadorian presidential candidates outraged after the assassination of their rival Villavicencio

Seville, Aug 10 (EFE).- The Blas Infante Foundation has organized this Thursday the tribute act in Seville for the 87th anniversary of the execution of the father of the Andalusian Nation, Blas Infante, from whom it has claimed the validity of his legacy and has demanded reparation, dignity and justice for the victims of Francoism and their families.

More than 70 Andalusian and Republican groups, political parties and institutions such as town halls or the Junta de Andalucía have joined the tribute, held at kilometer 4 of the old Carmona highway, in Seville, where Infante was shot on August 10, 1936 after the military uprising against the Republic.

The commemoration act included speeches by the Foundation’s vice-president, Javier Delmás Infante, Blas Infante’s grandson, and Antonio Manuel, one of the Foundation’s trustees.

Delmás has stressed that the call is “open, it is not partisan, nor institutional” with the idea that no one can feel excluded.

“The objective is to keep alive his work of regeneration and commitment to Andalusia, and to vindicate his project for the future, which continues to be a point of reference and irradiation for Andalusians”, he expressed.

Before the monument to his grandfather, Delmás condemned those who perpetrated the “infamy of the murder that many have wanted to silence” and recalled that, as Infante said, Andalusians “have to get used to not feeling permanently wronged.”

“He always believed in Andalusia as a people, his commitment to the future with his universalist, pacifist, intercultural, humanist, feminist or environmental thought, in which culture is the guiding principle of peoples and people”, he summarized.

In a more political tone, Antonio Manuel proposed an active defense of historical memory to demand “justice, reparation and dignity” from the institutions for the innocent victims of Franco’s repression.

He has lamented that almost half a century after the democratic restoration “they are still waiting for a decent burial”, for which he opined that so much “injustice deserves this act of rebellion”

The tribute counted, as every year, with the presence of representatives of the main Andalusian political parties who projected the figure of Blas Infante, but with divergent visions.

The deputy secretary of Economy and Finance of the PP-A and parliamentary spokesman, Pablo Venzal, has declared that his party attended the 87th anniversary of the “unfortunate” execution of Infante to vindicate his figure, that of a “universal and very important” Andalusian in the history.

The PSOE-A has advanced that it will request the appearance of the Minister of the Presidency, Antonio Sanz, in Parliament after the publication of a tweet by the Center for Andalusian Studies (Centra) in which it was said that Blas Infante had been assassinated by the “break of coexistence” in Andalusia.

The spokesman for Adelante, José Ignacio García, also referred to this same matter, accusing the Junta of using a euphemism (for the bankruptcy of coexistence) that is a “true outrageous” democracy and has accused the extreme right of “ignoring” the victims of Francoism.

Toni Valero, Andalusian coordinator of the IU and Sumar deputy in Congress, has defended, for his part, the need to honor the figure of Blas Infante and to be consistent with his historical sense, which implies – he has stressed – defending what ” common, the public and equality among Andalusians”.
