- The most common is gradual loss on the top of the head. In men, the hair begins to recede at the forehead hairline. Women often have a widening of the hairline.
- Some people they lose their hair in circular bald spots or in patches on the scalp, beard, or eyebrows. There may be itching or pain on the skin before the hair falls out.
- A physical or emotional shock can loosen the hair. Strands of hair may fall out when combing or washing your hair, or even after pulling it gently.
- Some medical disorders and treatments such as cancer chemotherapy can cause hair loss all over the body. Usually the hair grows back.
- Flaking areas that extend to the entire scalp. This is a sign of ringworm. It may be accompanied by broken hairs, redness, swelling, and sometimes oozing.
Family history is the most common cause of hair loss. Thus, this disorder is called androgenic alopecia, male pattern baldness or female pattern baldness.
On the other hand, it can occur progressively and in predictable patterns. This is where a hairline recedes, bald spots in men, and a thinning of hair along the crown of the scalp in women.
Hormonal changes and medical conditions are another factor that alters hair loss, including pregnancy, labor, menopause, and thyroid problems. There are also drugs and supplements that cause this side effect, such as those used to treat cancer, arthritis, depression, heart problems, gout, and high blood pressure.

Alopecia is hair loss.
Similarly, avoid hot curling irons, flat irons, hot oil treatments, and perms. If you are taking pills, ask your doctor if they cause hair loss. Other tips are to protect from sunlight and other sources of ultraviolet light, quit smoking.
